About Smash Mouth
Grammy-nominated, multi-platinum pop rock icons Smash Mouth begin 2021 in the same spectacular and omnipresent manner they began 2020. With a worldwide television commercial repeatedly seen by millions. In early 2020, viewers across the nation applauded Smash Mouth’s appearance alongside “Flo” in Progressive Insurance’s dazzling Super Bowl halftime commercial. And now, in early 2021, one of the band’s signature songs “All-Star” (by now a near-tacit national anthem) is the most prominent feature of Applebee’s new advertising campaign.
These combined endeavors have kept Smash Mouth in the public eye (and ear) during this unprecedented, industry-halting pandemic. Once again, Smash Mouth’s appeal has proven to be both wide-ranging and timeless. In fact, America’s fascination (and infatuation) with the legendary San Jose quintet has only grown stronger over the years.
A look back at Smash Mouth’s formative years shows a band determined to make an impact from the get-go. Formed in late 1994, the band immediately begins recording demos and showcasing in both San Jose and Hollywood. In June of 1997, Smash Mouth is signed to Interscope Records when label brass catch wind of an unknown (and unsigned) band being ADDED to monumentally influential L.A. radio station KROQ’s playlist after only one spin of their song “Walkin’ On The Sun”.
Smash Mouth’s major-label debut “Fush Yu Mang” goes more than DOUBLE PLATINUM and sets the table for what most consider their masterpiece; 1999’s brilliant follow-up album “Astrolounge”. Boasting three top-ten hits (“All-Star”, “Then The Morning Comes”, “Can’t Get Enough Of You Baby”), sales for “Astrolounge” are nearly double those for “Fush Yu Mang”. Approaching nearly quadruple platinum status.
2021 marks the twentieth anniversary of two major Smash Mouth milestones. The band’s eponymous third (GOLD) album was released in 2001 and featured the top-30 single “Pacific Coast Party”, as well as the smash hit “I’m A Believer”. 2001 also saw the release of the worldwide blockbuster movie “Shrek”. In which Smash Mouth provides nearly the entire soundtrack.
Over the years, “Shrek” has remained an undiminished and unstoppable cultural mega-force. Always keeping Smash Mouth in the hearts and minds of millions. Always developing new generations of SM fans through its never-ending popularity among children and parents alike. Shrek is a timeless classic. Inextricably linked to Smash Mouth forever.
Along with the entire music industry in 2021, Smash Mouth is virtually chomping at the bit to get back to work. With an exciting new show just waiting to be revealed – as well as a new DJ collaboration coming later this year (can’t announce who yet) – the legendary, several-times-platinum, pop stars from San Jose are in fine form. As though waiting to be shot from a cannon, Smash Mouth is fired-up and ready for a triumphant return to the great stages of the world in 2021.
