Elias’ Doubles wins British Composer Award

Brian Elias has won the orchestral award for his piece Doubles at this year’s British Composer Awards. The results were announced at a ceremony held at Stationers’ Hall, London, on November 30.

British Composer AwardsDoubles was commissioned by BBC Radio 3 and premiered by the BBC Symphony Orchestra under its Chief Conductor Jirí Belohlávek at London’s Barbican concert hall in May 2009 to excellent reviews. Critics praised its “wild passions and dark tensions” (The Times), “sharply defined musical images” (The Telegraph) and its “bracing, brisk-paced, vivid unfolding” (Sunday Times). A recording of the piece will be released by NMC Records in autumn 2011.

The choral award was won by Sasha Siem, whose Deliver me O Lord for female voices and trumpet was composed in celebration of the 800th anniversary of Cambridge University. To purchase this work, please visit www.musicroom.com
